Home Cleaning and Organizing Service and Maintenance – This would include vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, washing tables and counters, vacuuming floor, washing backed up dishes, dusting, window washing, laundry, scrubbing bath tub, cleaning toilet, organizing refrigerator, spring cleaning, getting a car wash. Assisting in home organizing, removing clutter, and keeping papers correctly filed.
I can see this working and being a needed niche. However, it sounds like a huge undertaking and really several jobs rolled into one. As is true with anything, when a person tries to do too much, often nothing gets done well.
Before the days of cleaning services, people hired housekeepers who kept the house clean and
organized, the laundry washed and ironed, and often started or cooked dinner. It was usually a full-time job though.
For those who could afford the luxury of hiring someone to organize and
file papers and keep the car washed, these jobs usually fell to the social secretary or gardener. Sometimes the housekeeper would have a family member who was willing to make some extra money by doing these jobs.
So, as I see it, in today’s world of cleaning companies who come in once a week or even once a month for a couple of hours of mass general cleaning, there may be a need for this type of service. However, cleaning, de-cluttering, organizing, filing, washing the car… are the jobs of several people and will take careful planning and personal organization to do the jobs well.
Here are a few questions to consider:
- Do I want to work alone, with another person, or hire crews?
- Will I clean, de-clutter, organize, file papers, wash car… every time or occasionally and separate from the regular cleaning day?
- If not, which service do I want to be my primary business?
- How will I organize my time so that I can do a thorough job for every client?
- How many clients can I realistically service each day?
- What is the market willing to pay for these services?
This is strictly my opinion, and it is not meant to discourage anyone. I am only offering food for thought. Helpful comments from others are welcome.
